In the Making of Nox Archaist, co-founder and lead developer Mark Lemmert talks about how making the game began as a childhood dream and ended with the first commercial role-playing game released on the Apple II in 30 years. 

Mark describes the challenges, including a failed Kickstarter, the Apple’s quirky graphics system, and getting decent audio out of a one-bit speaker. Along the way, the team received help from many sources, including Richard Garriott (Lord British), Dr. Cat, Burger Becky, and Steve Wozniak (Woz). Finally, after a wildly-successful Kickstarter and a year of non-stop coding, Mark details how an obscure floppy-disk bug nearly derailed the entire project just weeks before release.

Mark Lemmert on Geek's Guide to the Galaxy

Nox Archaist lead developer Mark Lemmert and David L. Craddock, author of Break Out: How the Apple II Launched the PC Gaming Revolution are guests on Geek's Guide to the Galaxy Episode 450, which is also discussed in an article on wired.com. 

Along with host David Barr Kirtley, they talk about numerous topic including how gaming has changed since the 1980s, the importance of feelies in games, and personal experiences with Oregon Trail, Ultima, and more!

Release News, Shipping Update, Steam and more!

 It's been quite a ride since game release on December 12. Including the Kickstarter and Preorders, we've sold over 1200 copies of Nox Archaist, which must count as some sort of record for a 40-year old computer platform. We've seen tweets by Steve Wozniak, Richard Garriott, Robert Woodhead, Burger Becky, Jason Scott, Matt Barton, and many others. There's cool merchandise in our store, and Nox is coming to Steam. Most importantly, we've got great news on the ship date.

Shipping Update

Work is nearly complete on the floppy version of Nox Archaist. The floppy disk version is in beta and we hope to wrap that up in just a couple of weeks. At that point we'll begin disk duplication and start boxing up games and shipping them to all remaining Kickstarter backers and our first-run Preorder backers. Our plan is to start shipment at the beginning of February and have everything shipped out by the end of the month. We know you've been eagerly awaiting your boxed copy and we'll do our best to ship as soon as possible.

Last Call for Address Changes

If your shipping address has changed, this is your last chance to update it. Please make any address changes by January 22 by contacting us at support@6502workshop.com. After that date, there's no guarantee that we will get the change in time before shipment.

Game Update

In addition to fixing bugs, we've also listened to the feedback from the community. One feature request that we heard loud and clear is a way to flee during combat. We're excited to announce that we've now added a way to bravely run away! Look for an email coming soon with a download link. We'll also provide instructions on how to import your saved games to the new version. Moving forward, software updates will be for bug fixes only.

Yes, you read that right. Nox Archaist is coming to the Steam game platform! We have our store page up and are planning to release on January 28. If you know people on Steam who might be interested, please ask them to add it to their wishlist. If you're on Steam, and would like to play Nox within the Steam platform, we'll be making free Steam keys available to all backers - details coming soon!

We're also hoping to get Nox Archaist up on the GOG (Good Old Games) site. But to do that, we need your help. Please head over to the GOG wishlist page and add your vote and maybe even a comment.

Nox Archaist Live Steams (Full Playthrough)

Starting on Thursday January 7th at 9pm-ish US Central time (GMT -6), The Lost Sectors will begin live streaming Nox Archaist. They will continue streaming every other Thursday until they win the game. 

The Lost Sectors folks are veterans CRPG players. Last year they did live stream of Deathlord in the same format, taking around 8 months to win the game.

The stream can be found on their YouTube Channel. 

Lady Ailuros, host of Retro Metal, is a veteran streamer of Apple II games who is has been live streaming a full playthrough of Nox Archaist since release day.

Here stream schedule is usually:
